The purpose of this web site is to provide you with answers to questions that you may have
about the Human Rights Commission, our procedures and our roles within
Lexington-Fayette County, Kentucky. Our primary functions are to
investigate complaints of discrimination, monitor hate and bias incidents in the
community, and provide outreach and education to promote intergroup relations.

Regardless of Income,
African-Americans in Lexington Remain at Risk of Receiving
High-Cost Home Mortgage Loans
Research by federal agencies, academic institutions, community
organizations and others continue to document significant
disparities in loan pricing based on race, ethnicity, age and
income levels of neighborhood residents. Unlawful
discrimination remains a significant factor as well. This paper
looks at disparities and the ongoing presence of barrier of high
cost lending patterns associated with mortgage lending in our

Fair Housing Advertising Audit
For a period
beginning in May of 2008 and concluding the end of June 2008, the
staff of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Human Rights Commission
attempted to undertake an audit or review of advertising and
marketing of the local housing market with the various media sources
for compliance with fair housing laws. Said audit included rental,
sale of homes, homeownership insurance, and lending.

Outstanding Achievement in Fair Housing Award
Nominations for 2009 Award Now Being Accepted!
The
Lexington-Fayette Urban County Human Rights Commission is sponsoring
the Outstanding Achievement in Fair Housing Award to
recognize individuals and/or organizations that have shown exemplary
performances in fair housing practices. These individuals and
organizations have profoundly impacted the way that fair housing is
conducted over the course of their entire lifetime or who have made
significant contributions that support the spirit and letter of Fair
Housing Laws which they have demonstrated through words, deeds,
business policies, or other means.

LFUCHRC
Open House
Over 70 people attended the LFUCHRC Open House, which was held on
Friday, November 7, 2008. The Commission would like to thank

Anti-Hate, Bias and Violence Initiative
As part of the Commission's Diversity
Initiative, beginning in October of 2006, the Lexington-Fayette Urban
County Human Rights Commission Community Relations Committee began to
update the Commission’s anti-hate and bias plan and address the stated
concern of the lack of identifiable community resources devoted to
combating hate, bias and violence.
