Lexington-Fayette Urban County
Human Rights Commission
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September
14, 2001
The Lexington-Fayette Urban
County Human Rights Commission wishes to extend its thoughts and prayers to all
directly and indirectly affected by the attacks on September 11, 2001. We
recognize that this is a time to reflect and appreciate life in all of its
fragility. This is also a time to appreciate the human spirit of all of
our brothers and sisters.
We wish to underscore the
necessity of all people in the United States of America to pull together at this
time of need. It will be a slow healing process. These horrific acts
are devastating to all Americans, regardless of skin color or religious
beliefs. We ask that all people band together with love and acceptance.
Our Nation has proved time and
time again that we are strong and resilient. This situation, while raw,
will prove once again that we are truly One Nation. Let's all treat one
another accordingly and come together during this time of need. If our
citizens feed off the hatred of those who seek to destroy us, then the
terrorists and their leadership will have succeeded.
We have deep faith that the
leadership of our Nation will guide us to the most appropriate response at the
appropriate time. While not all of us can directly contribute to these
decisions and actions, the one thing that everyone can do is remember the
foundation on which this great Nation was born. We must respect our fellow
citizens as we unite to help our Nation heal.
Sincerely,
William D. Wharton
Executive Director
