William
D. Wharton and Dr. Felix O. Chima receive Award for Best Article from The
Journal of Intergroup Relations
The Journal of Intergroup Relations
presented the 1st Place Winner Award for the 1999-2000 Best Article
to William D. Wharton, Executive Director, Lexington-Fayette Urban County Human
Rights Commission and Dr. Felix O. Chima, former Assistant Professor, University
of Kentucky College of Social Work. The article titled, African
Americans and the Workplace: Overview of Persistent Discrimination, was
published in the Spring 1999 issue.
The
Journal of
Intergroup Relations is a quarterly publication of the National Association
of Human Rights Workers. The members of The
Journal’s Advisory Committee review nominated articles using three
criterion: (1) the level of interest and importance to human rights workers, (2)
the writing style – is it interesting, clear and includes real-life
illustrations?, (3) And the potential for improving the professional human
rights work of The Journal’s
readers.
This year the Advisory
Committee, made up of The Journal
Editorial Board, selected five articles for Best Article Honors from 14 eligible
articles. In addition to Mr. Wharton and Dr. Chima’s first place award, second
and third place awards were given as well as two honorable mentions.
Contact the Human Rights Commission at 859-252-4931, ext. 16, or visit the Publications
page of this web site to obtain a copy of the article.
